Bellini & Rossini

Two unapologetically operatic sacred works: Goldsmiths Choral Union presents Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Bellini’s Messa di Gloria. In Rossini’s splendid setting of the Stabat Mater there are uplifting solo arias and ensembles, and a particularly expressive final fugue for the chorus. Bellini’s Messa di Gloria, also known as the Mass in A minor, is cut from the same cloth. In these entertaining and heartwarming pieces, both composers marry their mastery of the theatre with a genuine devotion to their religious heritage.
