Mendelssohn, Britten & Rutter
GCU’s Autumn concert features three splendid works by composers with deep connections to England. Mendelssohn’s Hear my Prayer highlights the much loved soprano aria O for the wings of a dove. Benjamin Britten’s entertaining Festival Cantata Rejoice in the Lamb sets some wonderfully quirky verses by the 18th century “mad poet” Christopher Smart. John Rutter’s moving and uplifting Requiem, written in 1985, quickly became a modern classic and is performed worldwide.
